LOCAL OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES

Lifestyle of Compassion

ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES:

Backpack Blessings

Five Stones Church partners with Waxhaw Elementary, Western Union Elementary and South Providence School to supplement meals/snacks for children in need they can easily prepare for themselves at home. This supplemental food program is just one way we come alongside families in the community.

How to get involved individually, as a family or with a life group… Do a food drive for the specific needed items CLICK HERE .  Donations can be dropped off at the Engage Culture kiosk on Sundays or at our downtown Waxhaw office by appointment.

Clothes Closet

The Clothes Closet is our bi-yearly community free clothing event to assist families in need within our school partnerships and Union County. A perfect opportunity to actively live out our faith by loving on our neighbors.

We accept donations for the clothing ministry on Sundays at church at the Engage Culture Kiosk located in the Main Gym or at the church office by appointment Monday-Thursday. We meet on Thursday mornings 9:30am to sort clothing at the church office.

How to get involved individually, as a family or with a life group… Clean out your closets and donate gently used clothing and shoes for our bi-yearly events, join our weekly sorting team, spread the word among families in need in the community, and gather a team to serve at our events.

Food Pantry

Five Stones’ food and essentials pantry is available for those in need in our community and our church body. We accept donations of non-perishable food items year round to provide for emergency needs along with partnering with other local food pantries to provide for the immediate needs of our community. Did you know there are items you can’t purchase with food stamps? Essentials such as toilet paper, laundry detergent, soap, cleaning products, toiletries, feminine products, and diapers. If you would like to make a donation, please drop off non-perishable food and essentials at the church office during regular business hours. NON-PERISHABLE FOOD LIST

South Providence School

South Providence School in downtown Waxhaw is an alternative program for middle and high school students with exceptional needs and at-risk of long-term suspension. The school does not have a PTO to help with fundraising, events and extra needs. We have the opportunity to come alongside the families and staff of South Providence by providing uniform shirts, meals for parent meetings, and supplying their school store.

Meals for Waxhaw Police

Our police department works around the clock to keep us safe and improve our community. A small way to show our appreciation for all they do is to prepare and deliver a meal for them.

How to get involved individually, as a family or with a life group… Schedule a date through our Engage Culture Tea, to prepare and deliver a meal to the Waxhaw Police Department. If you are doing this as a life group, create a sign up genius or list of who will make and bring each item at the designated date and time.

Union County Community Shelter

We can help our friends at Union County Community Shelter with “Housewarming Baskets” for each family/individuals they help become independent again and transition into their own housing.

How to get involved individually, as a family or with a life group…  Do a drive for supplies and gather to put baskets together, then schedule delivery to the shelter as a group. The housewarming basket consists of: a laundry basket filled with laundry detergent, dish soap, cleaning supplies, soap, lotion, shampoo, towels and washcloths. You can contact the shelter directly for immediate projects, information or times to prepare and serve meals.  www.unionshelter.org

Adopt-A-Highway

Have you seen the signs near downtown Waxhaw for our adopted roadways? Five Stones has adopted a stretch of road to help keep our community clean. We are committed to cleaning up at least once per quarter.

How to get involved individually, as a family or with a life group… This is a perfect project for a group to get together and do. It is a small time commitment but makes a big impact in our town of Waxhaw.

Semi-Annual Events:

Clothes Closet

Five Stones Church offers a free shopping day twice per year, Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter,  for the Waxhaw community in need.

Annual Events:

Operation School Supplies

Before each school year begins, we do a backpack, school supplies and uniform drive to assist families in need in our community schools. Look for more information this summer on how you can provide for this essential need that shows God’s love through a simple backpack filled with supplies or a new school uniform.

How to get involved individually, as a family or with a life group…  You, your family or life group can adopt an age group or school and do a school supply drive this summer! We partner with Western Union, Waxhaw Elementary for Operation School Supply and use their school supply lists as a guide for filling backpacks along with South Providence School’s uniform needs.

Thanksgiving Turkey Fry

Each year on the day before Thanksgiving, we fry turkeys and assemble packages with all of the sides for a Thanksgiving meal to give to Waxhaw area families in need. Currently we partner with Waxhaw and Western Union Elementary along with South Providence School. In 2016, we will be providing Thanksgiving meals to 75 families.

Operation Christmas Child

We partner with Samaritan’s Purse to participate in their annual shoebox drive. A small shoebox can teach a child about the love of God, lead him or her to faith in Christ, inspire pastors, and plant new churches. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out is eternal. Be part of changing lives through a simple gift.

How to get involved individually, as a family or with a life group…  Your family, friends and life group can do a drive for supplies and have a packing party! Expand your reach globally with this simple expression of love.

INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS

Five Stones recently partnered with Finish the Wall to send a team of 17 to El Eden, Honduras.  This was our second mission trip to El Eden, with the opportunity to come alongside local pastors to finish a church structure, food pantry, and security wall.
